ZINK /QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

A little clarity goes a long way.

Find answers about getting started, design and construction support, budgets and working together.

Who is Zink for?

Zink supports private homeowners and commercial clients with spatial design, interiors and construction-related decisions. You may need a clearer brief, layout options, a material direction or help reviewing a quotation or design query. The first conversation establishes the right scope for your project.

What should I prepare before getting in touch?

A short description of the space, its location, project stage, proposed changes and indicative budget is useful. Photographs, existing plans and a few annotated references can help. For construction advice, have the relevant quotation or drawing ready and explain the question you need resolved. You do not need a finished brief; mark uncertain information clearly.

Can I ask for help with one room or an early idea?

A focused question can be a useful starting point. The scope might centre on a room layout, an interior direction or comparing a small number of options. The appropriate level of work, deliverables and fee are agreed before any appointment.

Can the first discussion take place remotely?

You can request an initial conversation through the enquiry form. The format and availability will be agreed by email. Remote discussion does not replace any measured survey or site investigation that the project needs.

What will I receive from an appointment?

This depends on the agreed scope. Design outputs can include a concise brief, layout options, concept drawings, material references and visual studies. Construction consultancy may produce a quotation comparison, a design-query record or agreed site-visit notes. The documents, level of detail and review stages are defined in the appointment.

Are applications, technical design and site work included?

Construction consultancy and agreed site visits can be commissioned alongside design work or for a focused question. They are scoped separately from a concept-design appointment. Application support, technical documentation and specialist coordination also need a defined remit, with suitably qualified specialists appointed where required.

Can you help before or during construction?

Yes. We can help clarify the intended scope, compare quotations, discuss materials and joinery details, and organise design queries with your appointed contractor and specialists. Where appropriate, site visits can be agreed with clear objectives and written follow-up notes. Tell us the project stage, the information available and the decision you need help making.

Are the images on this site completed Zink projects?

The design concepts combine architectural visualisations and illustrative layouts to explain spatial and material ideas. They are proposals rather than records of completed client commissions. Zhengping Xia’s personal portfolio is linked separately and distinguishes project context and individual contribution.

Can the design work with furniture or materials I want to keep?

Tell us what you would like to retain and why it matters. Photographs and reliable dimensions help test how it could fit into a new layout. Condition, installation requirements and suitability still need to be checked before a retained item is specified for the final proposal.

Is the online estimate a quotation?

No. It is an early planning range based on editable assumptions. It helps make scope, rates, fees, contingency and VAT visible. A project-specific price requires a sufficiently defined design, information about the actual site and appropriate supplier or contractor quotations.

How are consultancy fees agreed?

Fees should be agreed against a defined scope, deliverables and review process before work starts. The professional-fee percentage shown in the budget tool is a modelling allowance, not Zink’s fee proposal or an offer of services.

What might sit outside my construction budget?

Depending on the scope, additional items can include surveys, professional fees, application charges, specialist equipment, loose furniture, landscaping, temporary accommodation and tax. Check the tool’s inclusions and exclusions, and keep a separate list for your own project so that items are neither omitted nor counted twice.

Can I send my budget assumptions with an enquiry?

Yes. Add the relevant tool results to your project summary, then review them together in the enquiry form. Each scope remains separate. Submit the form to the website inbox, or prepare an email draft instead. Nothing is sent until you choose to submit or send.

How long will the design take?

Timing depends on the scope, the quality of available information, review periods and any specialist input. Share your preferred dates at the start. A realistic programme can be discussed once the work is defined; no fixed completion period is implied by this website.

How are feedback and changes handled?

The appointment should define review points and the number or extent of included revisions. Consolidating feedback from everyone involved makes each review more useful. If the brief changes substantially, the effect on scope, fee and timing should be agreed before further work proceeds.

Can the planning tool confirm whether I need permission?

It provides preliminary condition checks for England, national guidance routes for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and a limited size screen for Ireland. It does not issue a permission decision. The actual property records, restrictions and complete proposal still need review by the relevant authority or adviser. Building regulations are a separate consideration.

What happens to the information I enter?

Tool drafts, comparisons, language preferences and selected project summaries are stored on this device. When you submit an enquiry, the details and included summaries are stored in the private ZINK website inbox so we can respond. You can use an email draft instead. See the privacy page for details and provide only the information needed for an initial conversation.
