Make an intimate room for reading, conversation and everyday collections.
The collected room
A period sitting room with room for books, conversation and a quieter evening.

The idea, in context.
A familiar Victorian room becomes a place to slow down. The bay window, cornice and fireplace give the room its structure; walnut alcove shelves and a comfortable window-side chair introduce a more personal layer. The sofa faces the fireplace, leaving a clear route from the entrance to the daylight. Books, soft textiles and separate pools of light make the room useful through the day and inviting after dark.
A conceptual material palette. Product selection and technical suitability have not been specified.
Let the bay window and fireplace remain the main architectural features; integrate storage around them.
Concept layout.
Layout study exploring the concept; final dimensions and coordination follow a measured survey.
Follow the decisions.
Read the numbered plan alongside the room views, then see what the next design stage needs to resolve.
01 / Fireplace & alcoves
The plan gathers storage beside the fireplace; the room view keeps the fireplace as the focus.
Measure the alcoves and coordinate joinery depths, fixing and any fireplace requirements.
02 / Bay-window corner
A separate reading position makes use of daylight without taking over the centre of the room.
Test the actual chair footprint, curtains and route from the entrance.
03 / Conversation setting
Seating faces across the room; walnut and rust-toned upholstery give the view its warmth.
Review full-size finish samples together under the room’s natural and artificial light.
